Rooster bowls have been around for centuries, artists who made these objects would sign the inside of the bowl. These bowls are now mass produced and the signature has been replaced with a red dot. This is my take on mass production and an attempt to return this object back to its artisanal worth. Traditionally a rice bowl, farmers would eat out of these vessels with the belief that they would ingest the hard working spirit of the rooster.
All bowls are hand painted and each has its own unique shape. The inside glaze is flecked with Manuka ash from the wood fire oven I bake with at my part time job
